There are over 25 drugs used to treat epilepsy however three (gabapentin, pregabalin and diazepam) represent over half of the prescription items for anti-epileptic drugs.
In terms of spend, five drugs (levetiracetam, lamotrigine, gabapentin, pregabalin and sodium valproate) make up around 50% of the amount spent in UK primary care on anti-epileptic drugs.
